Collection: Spotting Scopes

Spotting scopes vs. binoculars....hmmm....., both have very similar functions which can lead to confusion.However, the two devices are actually very different. Most folks understand binoculars pretty well, and their uses, so hopefully this brief description of their differences will clear the fog....just like a nitrogen purge!

For those enjoying a variety of outdoor hobbies, spotting scopes are an excellent choice and come in a wide range of sizes and optics. If you're not so concerned about ease of transport, a spotting scope has outstanding capabilities regarding magnification but with some caveats. They are a bit more cumbersome than binoculars, requiring a tripod and/or a stable platform. If you're out and about and find a really flat, stable rock, you can get by without pulling out your tripod. Higher magnification and superb visual results also come with a higher price tag, but many of you outdoor enthusiasts are perfectionists and don't mind paying more for higher quality results.

Another obvious differences are spotting scopes have a 'monocular' view, while binoculars are, well, just that - 'binocular' view....one eye vs two. For those with limited vision in one eye, spotting scopes are an excellent choice over a monocular for their increased magnification options. Binoculars are also arguably lighter in weight if you're a backcountry trekker covering longer distances.

 If weight, transport and price are negotiable for you, a spotting scope may be just the ticket!
